Honestly Beautiful is the baseline that we at CÎME have been proudly pursuing for 10 years now. We commit ourselves daily to take an active role in women empowerment. We not only support various local women's projects in Nepal, but we also attach great importance to the representation of 'honestly beautiful'. After a decade of efforts to love our planet and each other, there's no better time to celebrate our beautiful skin with a limited edition product for our 10th anniversary!
What does honestly beautiful mean to you?
On the occasion of CÎME's 10th anniversary, our bestseller l'Huile by CÎME is given a new look! "What does honestly beautiful mean to you?". Based on this question, Brussels illustrators Jeanne Saboureault (better known as 'Jano.bxl') & Silke Reyntjens (SIRE.) started their design for the iconic limited edition l'Huile by CÎME. Result? Two different designs, each in the typical style of the designers, with a clear line: the women in the illustrations do not hide their nudity, but show their true nature. Open, pure and beautiful.
Jeanne Saboureault - JANO.BXL (illustration of the colorful dancers):
"My name is Jeanne Saboureault, and my pseudo is Jano.bxl.
I’m a 29 years-old illustrator based in Brussels, and the subjects I mostly draw are women. I love to talk about my daily life and illustrate what happens on my common days.
Anke and Isabel asked me to make an illustration for their 10th anniversary limited edition. They asked me to illustrate what HONESTLY BEAUTIFUL means to me.
As women, we have a lot of pressure: about how we look, what we wear, how we talk, how we flirt, how we work, the way we walk or breath …
So I love to turn my character into « funny and real women » because a woman is not always a tall, silent and graceful girl with long hair and sexy curves that doesn’t talk, nor have ideas. This a barbie, and a barbie is a plastic toy with no brain and no heart. My characters don’t breath but I want them to communicate freedom and life.
It was important to me that the illustration I’d make for CÎME on the theme "Honestly beautiful", would be women completely naked and natural, accepting their body, having fun, dancing without a care in the world: being naive, sincere. This is actually how the world should be!”
Silke Reyntjens - SIRE. (white and blue women):
“My name is Silke Reyntjens and I live and work in Brussels as an illustrator, under the name SIRE.
As an art scientist, I am intrigued by the perception of nudity throughout Western art history. With this in mind, I experiment with nudes through a female gaze.
Anke and Isabel asked me to make an illustration for their limited edition launch, on the occasion of their 10th anniversary. They asked me to illustrate what HONESTLY BEAUTIFUL means to me.
For this I went back to Henri Matisse's blue nudes, which he elaborated in lithographs. Matisse searched for the right posture for a long time by means of his well-known papiers collés cut-outs. Once found, he worked this out in these beautiful lithographs.
My figure does not hide her nakedness, but is proud of who she is. Just like Matisse, I like to go back to the color blue for my choice of color, for which I, like many other artists, have a great love/fascination. The power of this color is remarkable: blue adapts to the colors you place it next to: next to orange it takes on a supporting function - next to white it radiates an incredible energy. Let this for me be the true beauty that the female nude encompasses: powerful elegance. For me, blue in itself is 'honestly beautiful'.
